Birmingham Divorce Lawyer

Meeting Your Needs In Divorce

As a Homewood divorce lawyer, my focus is on you, the client. When you come into my office, my first point of focus is on learning what you need. Only with a thorough understanding of your legal goals and needs can I help you reach those objectives.

At Jason J. Bonar, Attorney at Law, PC, I have more than 15 years of family law experience. In addition, I have been serving as a Special Judge, appointed by the Supreme Court of Alabama, since 1999. In that time, I have presided over hundreds of family law cases and many family law trials. I have also served as speaker/presenter for many CLE/professional education seminars. From my firm's home office in Homewood, Alabama, I serve clients throughout Jefferson County, Shelby County and Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, in all types of family law matters, including:

  • Contested divorce: I help clients through complex, challenging contested divorces. Even if you and your spouse are unwilling to work together, I can protect your interests and help you obtain favorable results. If a trial is needed, I have the experience and courtroom skills to obtain the best possible results.
  • Uncontested divorce: Even when a divorce is amicable and both spouses agree to all the terms of a divorce, it is important to work with a lawyer to protect your rights and make sure the process goes smoothly and gets done right the first time.
  • Child custody and visitation: I work with clients to develop parenting plans that will work with them, their children and everyone else involved with the children's lives.
  • Spousal support/alimony: With more than 15 years of experience, I have a thorough understanding of the spousal support/alimony system, and I can help you through the process.
  • Child support: I can help you obtain a realistic range of what to expect in terms of child support orders, and I can help you negotiate the best arrangement possible.
  • Grandparents' rights: I represent grandparents and parents in cases involving grandparents asserting their rights to visitation with the children.
  • Prenuptial agreements: A prenuptial agreement is an important financial protection for everyone involved in a new marriage. These are especially important for second and subsequent marriages to make sure both spouses and the children from each spouse are taken care of in the future.
  • Juvenile law: I represent families of children who have been charged with juvenile offenses. I can fight to keep your child's case in juvenile court rather than in adult court, and I can help achieve the proper disposition and access the proper services to help rehabilitate the child.
  • Adoption: I help clients through the process of adoption, including grandparent and stepparent adoptions. Helping create new forever families is one of my favorite things.
  • Paternity: For a mother seeking child support from the father and for fathers seeking visitation and custody rights over the children, I can help with paternity actions.

While I make every effort to resolve family law conflicts through nonlitigious means, I have the experience and skill to fight your case aggressively in the courtroom if that is what your case requires.

In addition to these family law areas, I also help small-business owners with their unique legal needs in divorce. If you are a small-business owner, I can help you with collections matters to make sure you get what you deserve in your divorce.
